The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission has reminded the public that the sale and distribution of alcohol will be strictly prohibited during polling hours on Election Day, in accordance with national law.

In a public notice ahead of the 2026 general elections, the Commission cited Section 27 of the Representation of the People Act (Cap. 379), which bars the sale, offering for sale, or free distribution of intoxicating liquor at any licensed premises within a constituency while polls are open.

The restriction applies from the opening of polls until their close on Election Day and is intended to maintain order and integrity throughout the voting process.

Authorities warned that any person found in breach of the law commits an offence and may face penalties upon summary conviction, including a fine of up to EC$3,000 or imprisonment for up to 12 months.

The Commission is urging business owners and the wider public to comply fully with the regulations to ensure a smooth and lawful electoral process.
