The Honourable E.P. Chet Greene, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Barbuda Affairs of Antigua and Barbuda, held a productive bilateral meeting with the Honourable Dr. Hasan Mahmud Rahman, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, on the margins of the Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Meeting held in London.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both ministers to reaffirm the friendly relationship between Antigua and Barbuda and Bangladesh and to explore areas for enhanced cooperation within the Commonwealth framework.

Minister Rahman underscored the enduring importance of the Commonwealth as a platform for cooperation among developing countries, noting its continued relevance in promoting shared values, sustainable development, and collective resilience among member states. He emphasised Bangladesh’s strong commitment to strengthening collaboration with fellow Commonwealth partners, including Antigua and Barbuda.

During the discussions, Minister Rahman expressed Bangladesh’s willingness to support Antigua and Barbuda in several practical areas of cooperation. In particular, he indicated that Bangladesh stands ready to assist with capacity-building initiatives, including training opportunities in close protection and security support, which could contribute to strengthening Antigua and Barbuda’s preparedness for hosting major international events.

Minister Greene welcomed Bangladesh’s offer of support and highlighted Antigua and Barbuda’s preparations to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) from 1st – 4th November 2026 in St. John’s. He noted that partnerships and technical cooperation among Commonwealth member states will be vital to ensuring the success of the Meeting and to advancing the shared priorities of the Commonwealth family.

Both ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to deepening diplomatic engagement and cooperation between their countries and agreed to maintain close dialogue on matters of mutual interest within the Commonwealth and other multilateral fora.

Minister Greene expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s continued partnership and support as Antigua and Barbuda prepares to welcome Commonwealth leaders later this year.

Foreign Minister Greene was accompanied by Her Excellency Karen-Mae Hill, High Commissioner of the Antigua and Barbuda High Commission in London and Ms. Chantal Phillip, Minister Counsellor.
