— Antigua and Barbuda Trades and Labour Union President Bernard de Nully is calling for workers at ABS to receive outstanding overtime payments, saying years have passed without the matter being resolved.

De Nully raised the issue during his remarks at the AT&LU’s 87th Annual Delegates’ Conference as he highlighted several longstanding grievances affecting public-sector workers.

“Years have passed and the judgement is clear for ABS workers for unpaid overtime, and these same workers continue to work in good faith, but the frustration is real and overbearing,” de Nully said.

“Payments to ABS workers should be paid forthwith. Right is right and wrong is wrong.”

The union president included the ABS dispute among several unresolved labour matters that he said continue to affect workers across the public sector.

He said some public-sector grievances have remained outstanding for between 10 and 20 years and pointed to protests involving workers at the Central Board of Health, Solid Waste and Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre.

De Nully argued that workers must remain united as they seek resolution of outstanding grievances, warning that divisions among employees can weaken the gains achieved through collective bargaining.

The AT&LU represents more than 10,000 workers across Antigua and Barbuda, according to de Nully. The union held its 87th Annual Delegates’ Conference under the theme of developing stronger workers for a stronger future.
