Nearly 40 Commonwealth heads of government have confirmed that they will attend the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Antigua and Barbuda, Prime Minister Gaston Browne says.

Browne said all 56 Commonwealth member countries have confirmed their participation, with most expected to be represented at the level of head of government.

“I believe we have had 30-something, close to 40 heads who have confirmed already,” Browne said during his weekly radio programme.

CHOGM 2026 is scheduled to take place in Antigua and Barbuda in November. It will bring political leaders, government delegations, business executives and other representatives from across the Commonwealth to the twin-island nation.

Browne said the level of participation could make the gathering one of the most significant international conferences ever held in the Caribbean.

He said the government intends to use the event to strengthen trade and investment among Commonwealth countries while attracting capital, technology and specialised skills to Antigua and Barbuda.

The Commonwealth includes some of the world’s largest economies, including India, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia, as well as small island developing states in the Caribbean and Pacific.

Browne said the country does not intend to serve only as a venue for the conference. He wants the gathering to produce tangible opportunities for local businesses, landowners and developers.

The Commonwealth Business Forum, which will run alongside the meeting, is expected to bring major investors and business leaders to Antigua and Barbuda. The government is working to connect those visitors with local entrepreneurs and property owners seeking investment.

Officials have also announced a “Power Pitch” programme through which selected entrepreneurs will present investment-ready business proposals directly to prospective investors.

Browne said Antigua and Barbuda should use CHOGM’s convening power to bring wealthy and influential people together and secure opportunities that continue after the conference ends.

The prime minister described the confirmed participation of all 56 member states as evidence of Antigua and Barbuda’s growing diplomatic profile and its ability to host a meeting of global significance.
