POLICE ADMINISTRATION PLEASED WITH OVERALL OUTCOME OF 2026 CARNIVAL CELEBRATIONS
St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, The Police Administration has expressed its satisfaction with the overall outcome of the 2026 Carnival celebrations, following what has been described as a safe and largely incident-free festival.
According to the Police Administration, this year’s festivities concluded without any major incidents of violence or serious injuries, reflecting the collective commitment of the public and law enforcement agencies to ensuring a safe environment throughout the Carnival season.
The Administration attributes the peaceful outcome to the cooperation and responsible conduct of the general public, particularly during the major events, including J’Ouvert and the Last Lap. While a small number of revellers were arrested after being found in possession of various prohibited weapons, the overwhelming majority complied with the safety advisories and security measures implemented by the police before and throughout the celebrations.
The Administration also extends sincere appreciation to its officers, whose professionalism, dedication, and efforts contributed significantly to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of residents, visitors, businesses, and property during the Carnival season.
Commissioner of Police Mr. Everton Jeffers, expressed special gratitude to the Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Telbert Benjamin, and the officers and soldiers of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF) for their unwavering support throughout the festivities.
He said, “I am particularly pleased with the level of professionalism, discipline, and dedication demonstrated by the officers and soldiers of the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force. Their seamless collaboration with our officers played a significant role in ensuring that Carnival 2026 was celebrated in a safe and secure environment for everyone.”
The Commissioner also conveyed his appreciation to the Antigua and Barbuda Festivals Commission for its continued partnership and support. He acknowledged the Commission’s collaborative approach in working alongside the police and other stakeholders to facilitate the safe staging of the country’s annual cultural festival.
The Police Administration further extends heartfelt thanks to members of the media for their continued partnership in disseminating important public safety messages before and during the Carnival celebrations.
The Administration remains committed to building on this success through continued partnerships with the community and all stakeholders, while maintaining its mission of providing a safe and secure environment for everyone.
