Two people were reportedly stabbed during an altercation at Monday’s J’Ouvert celebrations, despite police describing the wider event as mainly incident-free.
The brawl allegedly involved individuals associated with the GFK and Drilly gangs. The conditions of those injured were not immediately known.
Police Commissioner Everton Jeffers said security teams worked alongside the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force, with only a handful of people detained for allegedly carrying weapons.
Sixteen bands participated in the celebrations, drawing masqueraders of mainly Antiguan, Dominican and Vincentian heritage to the streets of St. John’s.
Authorities have not yet issued an official statement on the reported stabbing.
