A man has been found guilty of raping a 14-year-old girl at her home in February 2023 after a jury rejected his denial.

The complainant testified that the neighbour entered the home while she was alone and assaulted her.

The defence challenged inconsistencies between her first police statement and a later, fuller account, arguing that she fabricated the allegation to conceal a male school friend’s visit.

She denied the claim, explaining that fear initially prevented her from revealing everything.

She said she later disclosed the full incident after speaking with her grandmother and learning she would undergo a medical examination.

The defendant maintained that he had gone to confront her about the school friend and had no physical contact with her.

Jurors rejected his account and returned a guilty verdict.
