INCREASE IN SELF EMPLOYED DECLARED EARNINGS
The Antigua & Barbuda Social Security Board wishes to advise self-employed persons that in accordance with the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Code (Minimum Basic Wage) Order 2026 No. 30, the National Minimum Wage has increased to EC$11.50 effective April 1, 2026.
As a self-employed individual, this change directly impacts your Social Security obligations, based on your declared earnings which should be in keeping with the legal minimum wage.
Therefore, self-employed persons whose monthly declared earnings are currently below EC$2000.00 are required to update their records to ensure continued compliance and protection of your future benefits.
Why This Matters:
Benefit Accuracy: Your future benefits are calculated based on these contributions and underpaying now could result in significantly lower payouts later.
Legal Compliance: Ensuring your declarations match the current legal minimum wage is a statutory requirement for all registered self-employed persons. Declarations below the minimum wage will not be accepted.
If you have any inquiries regarding how these changes specifically affect your account, please contact the Self-Employed Unit at 268-736-3000 for further information.
