“Several scores of individuals have been able to find gainful employment as a result of my intervention,” ABLP incumbent candidate for St. John’s City East Melford Nicholas said, as he outlined his focus on job creation and economic empowerment ahead of the April 30 general election.

Speaking on ABS Television’s _Know Your Candidates_ programme, Nicholas pointed to employment opportunities facilitated through government ministries and agencies as part of his record in the constituency.

He said his campaign is now centered on expanding those opportunities through small business development, education and youth programmes designed to support long-term economic mobility.

“Small business development is something that I’m going to support… by lowering the cost,” Nicholas said, referencing plans for a commerce park that would allow several entrepreneurs to establish businesses within the community.

The proposed development is expected to create space for up to ten small businesses and contribute to local economic activity, including tourism-related ventures.

Nicholas also highlighted continued investment in education, including scholarships and access to continuing education programmes.

“With the scholarship programme that we have, the continuing education programme… we continue to invest in those persons in their productive years,” he said.

Youth engagement initiatives, including summer camps and sports programmes, were also cited as part of efforts to build skills and provide positive pathways for young people in the constituency.

In addition, Nicholas said he has been guiding residents toward government-backed funding opportunities for entrepreneurship.

“I’ve always referred persons to the entrepreneurial development fund… and provided the technical assistance for them to be able to get those business plans done,” he added.

With the election approaching, Nicholas said his focus remains on expanding access to jobs and business opportunities as a means of strengthening economic independence within the constituency.
