    Active Fire at the Cook’s Sanitary Landfill

    The National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) is currently experiencing a fire at Cook’s Sanitary Landfill. The fire started last evening at approximately 10:00 p.m.

    The Authority is currently engaged in extinguishing the fire.

    The Authority expresses sincere apologies to the surrounding communities for the disruption of their day-to-day activities to include the poor air quality. People with respiratory ailments are asked to stay indoors or take precautionary measures.

    The Landfill remains open; however, Users are asked to proceed with caution. If conditions begin to worsen the Authority will advise in a follow-up release.

    As, we move forward the Authority pledges to minimize hazardous events within the Landfill.
