The prosecution is nearing the end of its case in the murder trial of Nigel Christian, with its final witness expected to conclude testimony on Thursday.

The lead investigator from the Serious Crimes Unit took the stand Wednesday before Justice Rajiv Persaud, outlining key elements of the probe into the 2020 killing. Three men — Saleim Harrigan, Wayne Thomas and Lasean Bully — are charged with abducting Christian from his McKinnons home and fatally shooting him in Thibou’s.

Earlier, an Assistant Superintendent of Police completed cross-examination, where defence attorneys focused on a key witness who claimed he transported the accused, witnessed the abduction, and later discovered the body.

The officer confirmed that a damaged digital video recorder recovered from Christian’s vehicle could not be analyzed, even with FBI assistance, and produced no usable evidence. He also acknowledged that the conclusion that three men were involved relied heavily on the driver’s account, with no supporting footage.

Jurors also heard that Christian’s mother initially told police four men were involved, but later testified she saw three.

In her testimony, the lead investigator said she processed the crime scene in Thibou’s and later recovered items, including clothing and documents, from the victim’s vehicle in Cassada Gardens. She confirmed the accused were interviewed separately and charged in April 2021.

She also disclosed that a laptop recovered from the vehicle has never been forensically examined, raising further questions about untested evidence. A witness also reported seeing a white RAV4 speeding through Royal Gardens on the day of the killing.

The Crown is expected to formally close its case once the investigator completes her evidence, after which the defence will begin its arguments.
