AG Steadroy Cutie Benjamin First ABLP Candidate Nominated as Process Gets Underway
Nomination Day proceedings are underway across Antigua and Barbuda, with Attorney General Steadroy “Cutie” Benjamin becoming the first candidate for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) to be officially nominated.
Benjamin’s early nomination signals the start of what is expected to be a full slate of candidates from the ruling party, as well as the main opposition United Progressive Party (UPP), the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM), and several independent contenders.
Activities are taking place simultaneously across the country’s 17 constituencies, where candidates are submitting nomination papers under the supervision of returning officers.
More nominations are expected throughout the day as party supporters gather at various centres, with the process scheduled to run until 6 p.m.
The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) is expected to release a full list of all successfully nominated candidates later this evening, confirming those who will contest the April 30 general election.
Nomination Day marks a critical milestone in the electoral calendar, officially setting the field ahead of what is anticipated to be a closely watched campaign period.
