Antiguan students studying in Havana are urging Prime Minister Gaston Browne and Antigua and Barbuda’s ambassador to Cuba, George Goodwin, to intervene urgently, saying they have received no official guidance as tensions escalate in Cuba.

The students say other Caribbean embassies have begun briefing their nationals, but Antigua and Barbuda’s mission has not communicated with them, leaving them uncertain about safety arrangements or possible evacuation. Some say they are reluctant to speak publicly, fearing repercussions.

Their concerns follow new measures by the United States, where President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency over alleged threats from the Cuban government, triggering fresh sanctions effective Jan. 30. As foreign governments and companies review contingency plans, the students say they need clear direction from home authorities to ensure their safety.
