Two of three women charged in connection with the theft of more than 100 wigs from an Old Parham Road store appeared before court again yesterday.

Moesha Wright and Natherna Rodgers, of Bishopsgate Street, cried in the dock as they stood before Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason for what was to be their committal hearing.

Both women were previously granted bail in the sum of $50,000, with a $5,000 cash component which they were required to pay immediately.

However, only Wright was able to afford it and was granted release.

On Wednesday, Rodgers pleaded her case to the magistrate as she remained in detention as a result of being unable to find the cash. Magistrate Wason agreed to lower the amount by half to $2,500 and Rodgers was released on bail.

The incident in question took place between March 31 and April 1, when popular hair store Everything Hair 268 was raided, resulting in the theft of dozens of wigs and hair products.

Three women were initially charged, however one of them pleaded guilty and was fined.

Jahshsiene Green was charged with receiving stolen wigs valued at a total of $2,120, which were found in her possession during a search warrant executed on April 5. She admitted to the offence and was fined $700 in April.

Wright and Rodgers are jointly charged with receiving items collectively worth $127,675, the high value making it an indictable offence. That means, if the police are able to gather enough evidence against them, their case will go before a High Court judge for further proceedings.

The case was adjourned until September 12.
