Sports and Creative Industries Minister Dwayne George has joined Antiguans and Barbudans in mourning the death of Arthur Mussington, remembering him as an inspirational figure whose determination and athleticism left a lasting impression on the nation.

“Like many Antiguans and Barbudans I am saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Arthur Mussington,” George said in a statement.

Although the two never personally crossed paths, George said Mussington’s example inspired him and many others who regularly saw him exercising along some of Antigua’s major roads.

“Many of us admired his strength from afar and may have even asked ourselves what was the story behind the man?” George said.

He recalled the familiar sight of Mussington, wearing sunglasses with his head wrapped, jogging along the roadways, often under the intense Caribbean sun.

“Arthur Mussington was a force to be reckoned with,” George said. “His drive and determination as a citizen and an athlete were unmistakable.”

The minister said Mussington’s dedication also challenged others to reflect on their own fitness and determination, particularly given his age and the physical demands he placed on himself.

George said the images of Mussington running along Factory Road and Old Parham Road will remain part of the memories many people have of him.

“While he is now gone from this physical world, images of Mr. Mussington in stride on Factory Road, or Old Parham Road will be forever etched in our minds,” he said.

George extended condolences to Mussington’s loved ones and called on the public to keep the family in their prayers as they mourn his death.
