Six Missing Fishermen Rescued Alive After Distress at Sea

Six fishermen who had been reported missing after their vessel became distressed at sea have been rescued alive, Trinidad and Tobago’s Ministry of Defence announced Wednesday.

According to the ministry, the crew of the fishing vessel ST VINCENT VII was found Tuesday night after the Maritime Operations Command Center received a report from the crew of the MV Marvel Kite , which was en route to the United States.

The merchant vessel reported spotting the fishing boat in distress while travelling westward approximately 349 nautical miles east of Galeota at around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

After approaching the vessel, the crew of the MV Marvel Kite found six people aboard whose identities matched those previously reported missing. The ministry said all six were in reasonably good health and had no significant injuries.

The Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard subsequently dispatched the CG42 , commanded by Lt. Commander Straker, to rendezvous with the MV Marvel Kite and transfer the rescued fishermen.

Officials said the fishermen are expected to be brought ashore within four hours.

The government thanked the crew of the MV Marvel Kite for their assistance and said additional updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
