ST. JOHN’S, Antigua — Sunrise Airways has officially launched direct air service between Antigua and Barbuda and Barbados, marking another step in efforts to strengthen regional connectivity.

The inaugural flight landed at Grantley Adams International Airport in Barbados on Wednesday, where tourism, aviation and government officials from both countries gathered to commemorate the launch.

The new route will operate twice weekly, providing direct service between the two Caribbean destinations and expanding travel options for business travelers, tourists and families.

Sunrise Airways Chief Executive Officer Gary Stone said the route is part of the airline’s “One Caribbean” vision, which seeks to improve regional connectivity while creating new opportunities for tourism, business, trade and family travel.

“Every new route brings our region closer together,” Stone said, describing the Barbados service as another milestone in the carrier’s mission to strengthen links across the Caribbean.

Antigua and Barbuda’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Michael Freeland, welcomed the new service, saying dependable and affordable air transportation is essential to the region’s economic growth.

Freeland said improved air access is critical to unlocking the Caribbean’s full economic potential by making it easier for people and businesses to move throughout the region.

In announcing the new route, Sunrise Airways said the service reflects its commitment to connecting Caribbean nations under its “One Caribbean” initiative by making travel between Antigua and Barbados more accessible.

Sunrise Airways currently serves 20 destinations across the Caribbean, North America and Central America.

The Antigua-Barbados route is expected to enhance regional connectivity while supporting tourism, commerce and cultural exchange between the two island nations.
