The Ministry responsible for the Environment has announced the appointment of Ruleta Camacho-Thomas as Acting Director of Environment, effective July 20, as Ambassador Diann Black Layne proceeds on pre-retirement leave.

Camacho-Thomas, who also serves as Antigua and Barbuda’s Climate Ambassador, is a veteran environmental advocate who has represented the country at regional and international forums, championing the interests of small island developing states in global climate negotiations. Throughout her career, she has promoted climate justice and drawn attention to the disproportionate impact of rising sea levels, extreme weather and other climate-related threats on vulnerable island nations.

In her new role, Camacho-Thomas will oversee the Department of Environment’s ongoing programmes while continuing to advance Antigua and Barbuda’s environmental and climate priorities at both the national and international levels.
