Minister of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs, the Honourable Michael Joseph, today conducted a series of site visits to key healthcare facilities and infrastructure projects as part of his ongoing assessment of the nation’s healthcare system and future development needs.

The Minister was accompanied by Permanent Secretary Stacey Gregg-Paige, Head of Infrastructure Gary Thomas, and representatives from the Ministry of Works, Telly Cornelius.

The delegation first visited the Grays Farm Dental Clinic, where they were welcomed by Head of the Dental Unit, Dr. Derek Marshall, who facilitated a comprehensive tour of the facility.

Discussions focused on the potential expansion of the clinic and the feasibility of introducing additional services to better meet not only the oral healthcare needs of the public but the visionary needs as well.

The visit provided an opportunity to assess the current capacity of the facility and explore options for future enhancements.

The team also toured the Government’s new morgue facility, where they reviewed the progress of ongoing works and received updates on the development of the infrastructure designed to support pathology and related services.

The Minister and delegation further visited the new renal facility currently under construction. Once completed, the facility is expected to significantly strengthen the delivery of renal care services and improve the experience of patients requiring dialysis treatment.

Updates were also provided on the construction of the new CARE Project facility, another important initiative aimed at caring for children with special needs.

Minister Joseph noted that these visits form part of a broader programme of engagement and assessment being undertaken across the health sector. He emphasized the importance of ensuring that healthcare facilities are adequately equipped, strategically developed, and capable of meeting both current and future healthcare demands.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, Environment and Civil Service Affairs remains committed to strengthening the country’s healthcare infrastructure and improving access to quality healthcare services for all residents of Antigua and Barbuda.
