Gospel singer Rashid Walker was named Gospel Artist of the Year at the National Music Awards on Tuesday night, emerging as the winner ahead of fellow finalists.

The award was among the early honors presented during the ceremony recognizing artists across several genres in Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry.

When Walker accepted the award, he began by expressing gratitude and acknowledging the talent of fellow performers in the room.

“Thank you. Thank you, Jesus Christ. I know there are a lot of great singers in the room tonight,” Walker said.

He also thanked the government and cultural authorities for supporting the awards and the music sector.

“Thank you to the government of Antigua and Barbuda. Thank you to the Honorable Minister Daryll Matthew and also to the Ministry of Culture for this award,” Walker said.

Walker encouraged fellow gospel artists to continue producing music, particularly with national celebrations approaching.

“I do encourage other gospel artists to release music this year so we can have some great music for independence coming up,” he said.

Following the ceremony, Walker noted on social media that the honor marked his second consecutive year winning the Antigua and Barbuda National Gospel Artist of the Year award.

“I put my faith in Jesus and the gift He has given me to write songs that glorify Him,” Walker wrote, thanking the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Ministry of Culture for the recognition.

He also acknowledged collaborators involved in the music behind the award-winning work, including his producer and fellow musicians, and expressed gratitude to family, friends and fans for their continued support.

“Jesus is coming soon let’s do All that we can for Him now God Bless You,” Walker added.

The National Music Awards ceremony recognized performers, producers and other contributors whose work continues to shape Antigua and Barbuda’s music industry.
