More than 1,500 teachers from government primary and secondary schools are on their third day of strike action, disrupting students’ education and exam schedules.
The teachers are demanding the release of promotional instruments for around 70 educators, which the Antigua Union of Teachers says should have been issued by March 30.
The strike has left many students unable to sit exams, raising concerns among parents and the community about academic progress. In response, Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister, Lionel Max Hurst, confirmed the promotional instruments will be provided by Friday. He blamed delays within the Ministry of Education for the hold-up.
The government hopes this will end the strike and allow students to resume exams without further interruptions.
