Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) is reaffirming its commitment to neurodiversity as it celebrates World Autism Awareness Day, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Throughout April, the hospital will host various activities to raise awareness and support individuals with autism.

As part of its “Light It Up Blue” campaign, SLBMC encourages the public to wear blue every Friday to show solidarity. The hospital also continues its Speech & Language Clinic in collaboration with the Center for the Holistic Advancement of Therapeutic Services (CHATS), helping children with autism develop communication skills.

On April 2, SLBMC will hold its annual Sports Day alongside the Adele School, CHATS, and the Victory Center, promoting inclusivity through play. Additionally, a webinar for educators, led by UK-based Speech & Language Therapist Vernisha Farrell, will focus on communication strategies for children with special needs.

SLBMC is also seeking sponsorships to support the professional development of educators, ensuring they have the necessary training to assist children with autism effectively.
